2GETHER AS 1 In Symphony

SMU brings together a community jazz band made up of talents from the SMU family such as faculty, staff, students and alumni. A new arrangement of Those First Steps, an original piece written for SMU during its early days, will premiere in this programme. SMU alumna Miss Lou and SMU-grown band Melting Pot guest. Led by resident conductor of our orchestra, Adrian Chiang.

Welcome to SMOOJazz, a 5-track jazz band showcase, which promises to be a visual and aural threat. Lounge in the comforts of home as we transport you into the world of blues and syncopation, complete with romantic candlelight. This curated set has something for everyone. Jazz fans will relish in classics Feeling Good and Don’t Know Why, refreshed by the young voices of SMU students. SMU community will swell with pride at the premiere of Those First Steps, composed by SMU’s Professor Saw Cheng Lim during the early days of SMU, rearranged in 2021 to commemorate SMU’s 21st anniversary. Supporters of SMU alumni and recording artiste Miss Lou will thoroughly enjoy her medley of 2 originals, Sophia (Time to Let Go) and Right Next To You. For the unconverted, we also have Dua Lipa’s smash hit Don’t Start Now, rearranged in jazz.

2GETHER AS 1 SUPPORTS
THE SMU RESILIENCE FUND

The programmes you have watched are a labour of love from over 300 youths over the last 8 months. They have come 2GETHER AS 1 to pursue their common passion in the arts, while juggling the commitments from other aspects of their lives. For some students, this includes shouldering financial difficulties during the pandemic. You can help ease their load by donating generously to SMU Resilience Fund, a university-wide effort established in 2020 to provide timely and much-needed relief for SMU students. We look forward to receiving your support during this festive season.
